About us
Owners Hunter and Beth Berry were young, idealistic, and broke when they first started dreaming together in college. “I said I wanted to be a farmer. He said, ‘Hand me a shovel!’ The love grew quickly from there.”
Driven by shared passions for all things “sustainable,” an insatiable hunger for adventure, and the blissful naivety of youth, the couple devoted themselves to change-making and got after it! From organic poultry ranching in the Texas hill country, to building Earthships in the mountains of New Mexico, to converting a 240 square foot shack into their three-year home, they followed their hearts from one dream to the next, making plenty of memories and babies (if little money) along the way.
Their most recent and transformative adventure consisted of four years in southern Mexico, where their hearts and minds were blown wide open. Though they fell in love with the Mexican people and culture, their daughters’ needs became increasingly difficult to meet in a less-familiar setting. The search began for a new stateside home.
“Asheville was a perfect fit for us. The size, the seasons, the mountains, the friendly folks…it’s proven every bit as welcoming and wonderful as we’d hoped.”
When Hunter first mentioned the idea of opening a taco shop, the consensus came quick. “We’ve done crazier things and survived. Let’s do it.”
They began talking to local abuelitas and street taco vendors in the pueblo where they lived. They gathered recipes and advice from friends and family all over the world. Though they’d never owned a restaurant before, they were hardly deterred. “TacoBilly was the next adventure in queue. We just went with it like we always have.”
The couple’s vision for their business is simple and reflective of their values. “We want people to taste the adventure, feel the love, and be inspired to live rich lives of their own.”
Family-owned, family-run, family-inspired and always family-friendly, TacoBilly marks the intersection of Passion and Adventure, on the corner of Brownwood and Haywood.
