About us

Aloha! Welcome to Yum where our mission is to present to you an unforgettable healthy experience, filled with fresh and delicious Hawaiian style cuisines. We are focused on the world of Poké, where you have many choices to choose from and to create your own dish! Our foods are top quality and suitable for any dietary requirements, with superior fresh ingredients and reasonably sourced fish.

Owner Aaron Cheng got the idea for Yum Poke from a restaurant in California two years ago. The food was fresh, healthy, fast and affordable. Cheng was a sushi chef in Manhattan, NY for 5 years before moving to the South, and when he was introduced to poke on that trip to California, he decided that the people of Asheville needed something similar.

Before you dive into it, we pride ourselves to inform you a little about the roots of Poké. Having gained popularity dated back to the 1970’s, it is a traditional Hawaiian snack. In modern days, Poké flavor and seasonings have altered through the heavy influence of Japanese and other Asian cuisines. “Poké” is Hawaiian for “to cut into crosswise pieces,” which can be represented through the pieces of raw fish in the dishes. The original Poké consists of cubed raw fish, whose origins lead to the name and title of these plates.

Now that you have a little background notice about what Poké is, we welcome you to join our team at Yum to indulge in the amazing qualities that the Hawaiian culture has to offer. Having taken our time to perfect the best selection of sauces to compliment your dish, we have crafted a series of signature options. However, with our wide variety of choices, you can create and customize your own personal combination. We hope you enjoy your dish, and thank you for joining us, or as our fellow Hawaiians would say, Mahalo!
